Must-Haves in Kitchen Design

Must-Haves in Kitchen Design

When designing a custom kitchen, there are some components one must have.

The kitchen is one of the most challenging rooms in the house to design. It is the crown jewel room when it comes to durable and beautiful materials, exceptional use of space, and delicious food. Before getting into the endless gadgetry one can install in this monumental area, here is a list of some of the must-haves to consider for your custom kitchen design.

Corner Storage

The efficient use of space is key when it comes to the kitchen; one can always find another nifty tool to add to the cookware collection. To make the most of your kitchen design, having corner storage space is a definite must. There are different versions of corner cabinetry, but the most common is 2-3 tiers of lazy susan shelving. You can also add corner cupboards to counter spaces to house appliances, like an electric mixer.

A Pantry

The pantry is generally thought to be an essential kitchen component, and for good reason. It’s the place where you can store just about anything, such as your cleaning supplies, snacks, tea, dry and canned goods, seldom-used tools, etc. Before installing one, however, take into account how you will use the space to maximize your design.

Ample Cooking Space

Another must is ample cooking space and utilities, particularly around the stove. No matter how big or small your kitchen may be, you’ll want to have everything you may need within easy reach, like a warming drawer or pots and pans rack. A cooktop along the wall or on the island can lend ample counter space.

Efficient Drawers

Meanwhile, deep drawers are part of today’s modern kitchen design. Instead of having under-counter cupboards with little to no shelving, deep drawers reduce the need to bend down and can house larger items. Toe-kick pull-out drawers use the space between the floor and the under-counter storage to keep trays, dog bowls, etc. out of sight.

Smart Lighting

Every lighting fixture should have a purpose for being there. With so many niches in the kitchen, one can effectively light up every area with applicable fixtures. Recessed lighting, under-cabinet lighting, and pendant lighting are three main types to add.
