Hosting Thanksgiving in Your Custom Home

Hosting Thanksgiving this year at your new custom home? Here are a few tips to help all go well.

Thanksgiving is coming soon, and what better way to celebrate the holiday than with your loved ones? Thanksgiving has always been the time to gather. If you have a brand new custom home, you will surely want to show it off to your friends and relatives this year. If you are hosting Thanksgiving in your custom home, here are a few ways to make the festivities go smoothly.

Keep the House Clean

Unless you have the discipline and habit of keeping your home clean, clutter will always build up. When your guests arrive, make the best first impression by keeping everything clean. Because you are likely to offer guests the grand tour around your custom home, make sure that every room is clean and tidy on the big day.

Decorate

What’s more, feel free to let your decorative side go wild. Adding festive fall decor will make Thanksgiving all the more special and memorable, especially on the dinner table with themed napkins, napkin holders, special cutlery and dishes, etc. If you have pumpkins and scarecrows from Halloween, you can keep those around until it’s time to pull out the Christmas greenery.

Plan for a House Tour

The tricky part will be when you decide to show your guests around the house. Generally, you’ll want to leave some time at the beginning as guests gradually arrive, everyone says hello, and people settle in. The house tour could be before or after the meal, and your decision may depend on the time you set the party. Plan to have your dishes ready as close to the mealtime as possible.

Prepare the Tables

Aside from the dishware and decorations, you may need to decide on how and where to arrange the tables. The dining room is one option, but if you have a deck or patio and the weather is favorable, you could also host there. Take the number of children into account and create a kids’ Thanksgiving table if necessary.

Coronavirus Concerns

In Maryland, one is allowed to hold up to 25 people for Thanksgiving dinner due to coronavirus concerns. If any family or friend cannot make it due to safety reasons, one could send them a small gift or a gift basket to let them know you are thinking of them.
