If a mix of the rural and urban, the historic and the modern, feels right to you, look into what Ellicott City has to offer you.

About Ellicott City

Some communities in Maryland are historical, while others are rapidly developing. Ellicott City is one of the most historic, founded by the Ellicott brothers in 1771. They worked the land to form a small village, its most powerful industry being a mill for grain. This industrious family sowed the seeds of a prosperous city that continues to thrive today.

Amenities

Ellicott City, Maryland, has a population of about 72, 247 people and is known for its excellent public schools. Its historic downtown area, despite a history of flooding, offers a scenic walk and plenty of boutiques and restaurants to enjoy. It includes both dense suburbs and spacious plots of land. Within a short driving distance, one can spend time in nature in Centennial Park or the Patapsco Valley State Park. Proximity to Baltimore city and Washington, D.C., allows easier access to two of the state’s most influential areas.

Unusual Tourist Attractions

If you are the adventurous type, you may find Ellicott City’s more unusual tourist attractions something to look into. Three of the most notable include St. Mary’s College, Enchanted Forest Theme Park, and Daniels. St. Mary’s College, built in 1868, became abandoned in 1972. Located in the Patapsco Valley State Park, it became the subject of many ghost stories and earned the name “Hell House.” Another oddity, the abandoned pieces of an amusement park called Enchanted Forest now sit at Clark’s Elioak Farm. Daniels, a small abandoned town in the woods featuring a Pentecostal church ruin, sits along the Patapsco River.
