With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to give some TLC to the exterior of your new home, including your lawn and garden. Now is also a perfect time for starting up or finishing your work on projects that you may have had on the backburner during the colder months of winter and early spring. As the weather heats up, consider this quick and easy checklist to prepare your home for summer.

Inspect Grout in Various Rooms of Your Home

Check the grout in your bathrooms and kitchen for any cracks or inconsistencies. It is especially important to make these repairs as needed in order to prolong the life of your tiled surfaces and keep your home looking great.

Check Your Plumbing System for Leaks

Now is a great time to check your plumbing systems for early signs of leaks, as well as for cleaning aerators on your faucets. Thoroughly inspect the faucets and toilets of your home, and be sure to check for any small leaks that may have started in the spring. Poor water pressure out of a faucet could be a sign that the aerator needs to be fixed.

Address Any Insect Problems

Because summer is an insect playground, you won’t have to look too hard to notice any insect problems. Ants, spiders, moths, are all common visitors for warmer months, however, they are fairly easy to remove from your home. Keep any cobwebs clear, have ant poison handy, and make sure all doors around your home are tightly closed and sealed.

Clean and Repair Your Deck and Patio

Early summer is the perfect time to make any necessary repairs to your deck or patio, even if it only needs a good washing before you entertain guests. A harsh winter may also mean that your deck may also need re-staining. It is also important to check for any loose boards or posts as you make repairs.

Clean Your Dryer Vent

It is especially important to clean your dryer vent and clear other exhaust vents to the exterior of your home to prevent a dangerous fire hazard for your home. While the dryer is running, check that the exhaust is coming out. It should smell nicely of fresh laundry. If there isn’t much exhaust, check for blockages as well as you can. You may need a professional service to clean your dryer vent.

Clean Your Garage

Cleaning the garage should be a summer ritual for every family. Keep your garage clean and tidy in order to extend its life and make the most of your space. Doing this will allow you to use the space more easily throughout the year and make room for completing other projects for your home.
